Portsmouth

The top of the table clash kicked off at 12 noon under bright blue skies. Both teams played good strong competitive football through this enthralling game. Play was end to end throughout the first half with a number of half chances for both teams. However 0 - 0 at half time was a fair score line. The second half kicked off and was as exciting as the first. Things changed in a cructial two minute period. A flashing shot was superbly saved by the Widbrook goalie. A few seconds later he touched a pile driver from Aaron on to the bar. Then Widbrook attacked and sent in a swinging cross. Spenser rose to head it, but unfortuanately it looped into the goal. A minute later a Widbrook corner was cleared into the path of one of their defenders who hit a superb shot into the net (just below the bar!). More bad luck for East Lodge happened when the ball struck Ronnie on the hand in the box... penalty ... 3-0. Chasing the game things became a bit ragged for East Lodge and Widbrook took advantage with some good passing and moving. A fourthe goal followed a goal mouth scramble where Ashley had seemed to make the save and have the ball ony for it to creep into the net. Not giving up East Lodge created more chances before Chad finally found the net. A 4 - 1 loss looks bad on paper but for all those watching it was an excellent game and much closer that the result looks.
