Hurricanes victorious against Victory

Approaching the end of the season this tough match against Fleurs was a tricky fixture. With the U10 Hurricanes fighting for a promotion place Fleurs Victory could do Fleurs Nelson a favour by beating us . Eastlodge got off to a great start playing good football in the first 10 minutes. A number of chances were created but a mixture of good saves, bad luck and a couple of slip ups meant the score remained level. Fleurs came into the game bringing off a few fine saves from Ashley. Chad, Spenser and Harry R all playing welll especially going forward all had chances but were still unable to score. A Harry B thunderbolt was tipped over by the impressive Fleurs goalie before a Chad cross evaded all touches and sneaked into the bottom right corner. Fleurs then had two good chances deep deep in added time. At half time and 1 - 0 the game was nicely set. The changes at half term unsettled us and Fleurs out of the blocks flying. Momentum swung from one team to the other and there were chances galore. At times it seemed that neither team wanted to score! In the dying seconds a free kick was blocked by Aaron and the resulting clearance led to an East Lodge win. The match coud easily have been a 5 - 5 draw but in the end a 1 - 0 victory pushes the Hurricanes within 3 points of promotion. An exciting game to add to a season of exciting matches!

Play up East Lodge!

The first game of the new year was a tense affair at a cold Denmead's King George V ground. East Lodge Hurricanes started off strongly and created a number of good chances but without finding the back of the net. Good saves, shots flashing wide and the final touch just being missed meant that at half time we were one nil in the lead. This was due to Sam finishing of a good move started by Spenser's strength in a 50;50 tussle. The second half continued with a strong team display from East Lodge with some good flowing football. However it was only with a Chad goal mid way through the second half that we could relax. Up until that point a well organised and hard working Denmead team didn't give up and had a number of half chances to tie the scores. Ash kept a clean sheet with a great save in the last five minutes from a Denmead free kick. Ronnie was man of the match for a great display. With three games remaining East Lodge have moved up to second in the table.

A return to winning ways

The under 10 Hurricanes returned to winning ways after a hard fought games against BSS. Although a 4 - 0 winning margin looked good the game was tight. On a small pitch the BSS goal keeper used his long kicks to put East Lodge under pressure however the defence were superb in how they dealt with the threat. A tight first half was lit up by a Jacob Mulligan tap in and an outstanding save by Ash. The second half started with lots of BSS pressure. A hand ball in the penalty area led to a penalty. Luckily the ref had blown up before the BSS striker scored. Super Ash used all his skill to keep out the penalty. The shift of play changed and East Lodge soon scored through Sam (a clearance flew into him and rebounded in to the goal), Spenser (a great goal celebration) and Chad (making the most of a goal keeping mistake. Other chances came and went but the game ended 4 - 0. As the Christmas break approaches East Lodge are comfortably in third and have had a great year. Roll on 2012.

Unlucky U10 Hurricanes lose top of the table clash.

East Lodge U10 Hurricanes went into this top of the table with a full squad of ten players with the welcome return of Harry Brown. The rotation system of the start of the season returned. The match got off to a great start for East Lodge with good attacking football lots of passing and moving and numerous chances created. A couple of good saves, a hitting of the post and a number of close chances. Fleurs were under pressure and used the long ball to their skilful centre forward to good effect. Against the run of play Fleurs scored. Within a minute Sam put in a driving run followed by a great cross. Chad went in for a flick and the ball ended up in the net. On closer analysis the goal was awarded to Sam as Chad admitted he'd missed it! At 1 -1 things were tense but Feurs made the most of their chances with a mixture of good play, poor clearances and a little indecission leading to two more goals. East Lodge got no more reward for their hard work and good play. At half time the 3 - 1 score line didn't reflect the closeness of the game. With changes made at half time the half chances kept coming. But often the shots weren't hard enough, too far out or off target. On a number of occasions the ball was held on to too long and opportunities disappeared. Fleurs then created a good goal from a corner where movement in the box was rewarded with a goal. In the last ten minutes things became scrappy as East Lodge pressed for goals. With 7 minutes left Jake controled the ball well quickly moved it and Chad was on hand for a tap in. Soon after we were awarded a penalty. Spenser so reliable in training unfortunately put the ball wide. With time running out we left one defender at the back and pushed forward. Three good chances followed but Fleurs caught us out on the break scoring a 5th. The end result of a 5 - 2 loss was disappointing but our display was good. Jacob was man of the match. It was good to see him back to his best after illness and injury.

Hurricanes tame Pickwick Lions

The U10  Hurricanes had a satisfying result against local rivals Pickwick Lions. Following an excellent practise match on Saturday where East Lodge lost narrowly to a very good Moneyfields team it was back to league football. A very blustery Roco pitch made conditions tricky but an entertaining match followed. Kicking with the wind in the first half East Lodge left their passing game on the training ground and found it difficult to make full use of the conditions. Although a number of good chances were created much of the first half involved kicking the ball from one end to the other. There seemed little time for either team to get the ball under control and pass the ball around. During the team talk at half time the players were able to see what was going wrong and tried to put it right in the second half. Pickwick started the half well and created a couple of half chances. However nerves were put to rest when Harry R took the ball on a driving run and rather than shooting from outside the box dribbled right in to the box before slamming the ball into the net. The scores were doubled with a Chad thunderbolt. Number three came from a Chad tap in following some good work by Aaron. Although we created more chances the scoring finished there. Not a bad second half  and a 6.5/10 performance.
